Our Philosophy

A school can serve families and students best if the families endorse the philosophic foundation on which the school operates. To allow you to judge that foundation, here are the main points of the philosophy that guides Minuteman operations:
  1. Most students, up to 60%, learn best from experiencing rather than just hearing or reading about knowledge and procedures. Minuteman emphasizes laboratory-based and project-based learning of academic skills.
  2. Each student has a unique set of learning styles and talents. Minuteman helps each student identify and use his or her special strengths.
  3. Motivation is critical to success in learning and life. The Minuteman guidance program is focused on helping students become highly motivated by finding career interests that match their talents.
  4. Students learn best in a supportive rather than a coercive environment. So, while maintaining a business-like environment, teachers emphasize cause and effect and help
  5. School programs should incorporate the major skills needed in the new global economy including:
    a. Computer and technical literacy skills
    b. Continuous improvement skills
    c. Teaming skills
    d. Learning ability skills

as students face a rapidly changing environment and information base. Minuteman programs emphasize development of these skills.
  6. Emotional intelligence based on self-awareness, awareness of others, and interpersonal skills is a primary factor in career success. All Minuteman programs focus on the development of this intelligence.
  7. Level of education is critical to career success. Minuteman programs are designed to encourage and prepare students for college and other post-secondary learning. There is a focus on lifelong learning being necessary to stay competitive.
  8. There is one thing we know about the future. It will be different. Students are prepared to expect and welcome change in all career fields. Entrepreneurship is encouraged.
  9. Effective teachers must be scholars who live the reality of change and constantly improve their teaching techniques and use of technology. Minuteman ensures that all staff members engage regularly in relevant staff development and continuous improvement.
  10. The school environment must be both safe and challenging. We invite parents and other interested parties to visit and take pride in that environment at Minuteman.
  11. Our quality of life and the strength of our nation depend upon honesty, graciousness, and respect and helpfulness directed toward others. Minuteman expects these qualities from its students
  12. There is no free lunch. Personal and team success are the result of work. Students are expected to live this reality and gain enjoyment from the quality of their work.
